Home Are you a small business owner? My latest book can help you become the CEO you want and need to be.
Do you feel alone as the owner/CEO of your business? Do you feel you have all the weight of your business on your shoulders? Perhaps I can help.
Working with people like you, capable entrepreneurs who are the engines that drive the US economy, have given me the extremely gratifying opportunity of participating in a large number of small and midsize businesses in many different fields. I like to think that in some modest way I contributed to the growth and success of those businesses. I wrote this book to put on paper some of that acquired knowledge, hoping to help other owners of small and midsize businesses become the best leaders they can be.
This book does not attempt to "upstage" the specialized books in each subject covered and it is not a "how to" manual to tell you what you should do; rather it is meant as a coaching session with you one-on-one. My job as a coach is not to tell you what to do or to give you the answers, but to ask the right questions or to give you opportunities to think, so that you come up with the answers appropriate for your business and for yourself.
Thus, this book doesn't contain theories or fancy ideas-of-the-week practices. It is based on real-world experience, and practical wisdom learned in real-life situations over many years. I don't intend to teach you to be a CEO, but I want to help you become the best CEO that you can be, for the good of your business and your own happiness.
You have already achieved much more than most people; starting a business and making it successful is a huge accomplishment. You are intent on improving yourself and your business because you want your organization to be solid and well-run, but you also focused on the self-fulfillment of your ambition to be the best. I hope that I can help you achieve both goals.
I will be pleased to discuss with you anything related to this book; please e-mail me.
Readers Reviews 5.0 out of 5 stars - August 16, 2012 by Doug Shipman, President, CEO Shipman Technologies, Inc. Your book is an invaluable resource for me and it has become my closest companion. Some of the topics you address are painful for me to read because they describe my business ailments; it seems you’ve been visiting my nightmares! I am certain that if I could prevail on you to provide coaching for me I might be able to cure those ailments. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
5.0 out of 5 stars - January 26, 2012 by Wayne Berry, CEO, Aquarius International Corporation Viva's book is a masterpiece of reality. It should be a MUST READ for all entrepreneurs, budding entrepreneurs, CEOs, GMs, and professional coaches. Loaded with real concerns, situations and fears of those at the top, it presents a reader-friendly pathway to achieving excellence in management and leadership. I have strongly recommended it to scores of clients and business associates and it gets rave reviews from all who have an open mind. I makes us feel that although we are still in command, we are no longer alone. The helpful self-questionnaires and planning guides are a welcome (yet rare) addition to the work.
5.0 out of 5 stars - January 14, 2012 By Buddy Hull, CEO, TAB Atlanta East Practical Guide....absolutely, but the real value is as an ongoing reference. It's Lonely At The Top is clearly what it bills itself to be -- a practical guide for business owners. But it is much more, it is a reference tool owners will refer to time and time again. Whether a strategic issue around business direction, structure or leadership, or more tactical issues such as managing employees, working through cash flow issues or any of the myriad of questions that arise on a daily basis, Mr. Oswald's real world experience and expertise presents solutions and a path forward in clear, concise and yes, practical manner. In my work with business owners, this book is now a staple.

5.0 out of 5 stars , October 30, 2011 by John F. Dini "author, consultant and coach. Comprehensive and readable in one package. If you are looking for a book that you can both read, and then keep around for reference, this fills the bill nicely. Mr. Viva walks through the issues and roles of leading a company step-by-step. It is organized both chronologically (through an owner's career from becoming a CEO to exiting) and functionally (chapters on delegating, planning, culture and accountability). Perhaps the best part is when the author steps out of the book to lend personal narrative. "From my bag" has anecdotes and real-life situations from his own business experience, and "Coaching Tips" gives you advice on implementing as if he were sitting in the room with you. I plan on adding this to our library for business owner clients, and am sure we will give away many copies in the future.
5.0 out of 5 stars , October 23, 2011 By MDBraceman A life or work, coaching and success for others It is lonely at the top and who can you trust for real advice? All CEOs suspect employees do not always tell you the straight picture. Lawyers, accountants and consultants can help, but few have actual business experience and practical advice beyond their specialty training. Oswald Viva's book fills a need and contains a lifetime of education, training and experience as a former CEO and as a successful coach to non-Fortune 500 CEOs. The coaching suggestions are particularly useful and the book can be an on-going reference guide for the new or seasoned CEO. Enjoy the read.

4.0 out of 5 stars , September 28, 2011 By Mike Precopio, President and CEO Summers Labs. I was given thLots of business pearlsis book as a gift. It took me about 10 seconds to realize this was a practical read with a lot of take home value for a business owner. This is the type of book that makes a difference even if the reader only takes out a few things that they use regularly in their business and there are more than a few things to extract.
